چکیده

This review addresses the recovery of metals from all main types spent batteries (including Li-based, Zn-based, and Ni-based batteries) using bioleaching processes. Traditional processes are based on pyrometallurgical hydrometallurgical methods can be costly and, in some cases, cannot effectively recover used battery manufacture. Biobased hydrometallurgy may circumvent these drawbacks. presents a classification chemical composition recycling point view. The bacterial fungal leaching for each type is reviewed. research outputs compared section, biological mechanisms presented. In addition, catalytic effect process reviewed battery. results indicated that reactions with metabolites, acid dissolution, their combinations oxidation-reduction reactions. presented literature assessed modified thermodynamically. advantages disadvantages discussed, future perspective drawn. Although has high efficiency an environmentally friendly method, no gas emission low energy consumption, slow kinetics pulp densities among major limiting factors hindering bioprocessing development pilot to commercial scale.

METALS RECOVERY FROM SPENT Zn-MnO2 BATTERIES BY HYDROMETALLURGY

A hydrometallurgical process for recycling spent Zn-MnO2 batteries was developed, involving leaching with sulfuric acid, purification by precipitation and metals separation for further recovery. Leaching of zinc oxide was easily attained while for manganese oxide was rather difficult depending on temperature and acid concentration. At 90oC and with the liquid/solid ratio of 20 L/kg, more than 9...

A New Thermal Process for the Recovery of Metals from Zinc-carbon and Alkaline Spent Batteries

The aim of this study is the thermal recovery of manganese and zinc from a mixture of zinc-carbon and alkaline spent batteries containing 40.9% of Mn and 30.1% of Zn after a preliminary physical treatment. Separation of the metals is carried out on the basis of their different phase change temperatures, the boiling point of zinc being 906°C and 1564°C that of Mn3O4, the main Mn-bearing phase in...

BIOLEACHING OF METALS FROM A SPENT DIESEL HYDRODESULFURIZATION CATALYST EMPLOYING Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans FG-01

This study evaluates the recovery of heavy metals employing a spent catalyst from the hydrodesulfurization (HDS) of diesel, with no chemical, thermal or physical pretreatment, using the bacterial strain Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans FG-01. Direct and indirect bioleaching tests were carried out in Erlenmeyer flasks (500 mL). The influence of the pulp density and supplementation with elemental su...

Leaching Process for the Recovery of Valuable Metals from Spent Lithium- Nickel-cobalt-manganese-oxide-based Lithium-ion Batteries

This study focused on the leaching process for the recycling of Li, Ni, Co, and Mn from the LiNixCoyMnzO2 (NCM) cathodes of spent lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Eh–pH diagrams were used to analyze suitable leaching conditions. Operating variables, such as the concentration of H2SO4 (0.5–2.5 M), concentration of H2O2 (0–1 vol%), temperature (10–50 °C), stirring speed (400–800 rpm), and solid/liqu...

Bioleaching of Heavy Metals by Sulfur Oxidizing Bacteria: A Review

Bioleaching, a novel biotechnological process, is used to eliminate heavy metals from contaminated sediments by acidification as well as solubilization of heavy metals. Metals from poor-quality ore and mineral compounds are removed by Bioleaching process, which is simple and low cost effective technology. Acidophilic sulfur oxidizing bacteria (Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans, Acidithiobacillus t...
